depends on what they check.

Sometimes. There are many different levels of background check. Normally, they only check your Driving Record and State Criminal Record. But some high security BI’s can interview your Kindergarten Teacher.

Depends on what type of job you apply for and how extensively they check. It’s always best to be honest.

Your most basic of employment background checks includes a previous employer check. So yes, if the company does a background check your previous employers will most likely be contacted. There is very limited info they give about you.
Other checks will include a criminal check and more companies are now doing credit checks as well.
Even though these checks are being run, you still have rights if derogatory findings occur.
